Blogs we Like

Jess Likes: Igor + André

Igor + André melds together two of my greatest obsessions: art and fashion.  I am always flipping through the latest issues of i-D or searching for runway collections on style.com in search of images of models looking their usual gorgeous selves. If you, like me, have a bizarre obsession with images of fashion models then Igor + André is the blog for you. The blog, started by brother Danny and David Roberts, was created as an avenue to showcase Danny’s fashion illustrations and paintings.  Danny’s subject matter ranges from fashion to models to fairytales.  Check out the beautiful illustrations on Igor + André.

Jess Likes: Blushing Ambition

I do admit that I am one of those girls who enjoys scrolling through fashion blogs looking at images of girls who appear to be playing dress-up.  Upon my search for the ultimate fashion blogger I came across a blog that mixes fashion and food.  More of a lifestyle blog than images of a girl playing dress up, Blushing Ambition is a look into the life of as Annabel herself puts it: a “22-year-old student content with spending more money on food than clothes”.  And spend money on food she does; whether it be a coca-cola float from St. Francis Fountain in New York or a simple brunch with her boyfriend in their home of San Francisco or that ridiculously good looking maple-bacon donut from Voodoo Donut in Seattle, Annabel never fails to provide us with some seriously attractive food porn.  Blushing Ambition does often feature fashion photos of Annabel but she always seems to look cute rather than like a girl who is striving to be a supermodel.  Check out the blog!  You may even (guilty) begin a food-to-try bucket list.

Sarah Likes: Lottie + Doof
When I’m looking for a new recipe, generally of a baked good, Lottie + Doof is one of my go-tos. What, or who, do they recommend? There’s generally an answer. The writing is quick. They are knowledgeable. The photos make me drool. They’re from the Midwest. Site looks great and functions beautifully — try searching for something, up it comes and they have a recipe index. I wish they posted daily because their content is so great, but who has time for that?

Gabrielle Likes: Young House Love
I just discovered Pinterest.  Like I needed another website to encourage procrastination.  But unlike other time-wasting websites, Pinterest makes me want to get up and organize my life.  It makes me want to do crafts, create elaborate and ingenious organization systems and turn vintage books into bookshelves.  While I haven’t actually created anything yet, I have a to-make list the size of Texas to start when my life isn’t consumed by classwork.
Since I’m now on a DIY kick, I recently stumbled upon an awesome blog called Young House Love.  Talk about finding the motherload of do-it-yourself projects.  Even though I do not own a house and live in an on-campus apartment that I can’t even paint, I love looking at home improvement projects and Young House Love is full of them.  Beautiful photos and creative ideas make me so excited to live in my own place!
Between Pinterest and Young House Young, you can expect some posts soon about projects the roomies and I attempt!  If you haven’t already, sign up for Pinterest and check out Young House Love!

Gabrielle Likes: The Edible Perspective
I started reading blogs last year.  A little late I know, but I just didn’t get on the blog bandwagon when the trend started.  I discovered blogs mainly for new recipes when I started eating vegetarian.  What I found was tons of people online eating meat-free diets and writing about their experiences.  One of my favorites that I stumbled upon through the complex web of food blogs out there was The Edible Perspective.  Great recipes, informative how-tos, beautiful photographs are what this blog is about.  The author, Ashley, makes unique recipes with many different options including gluten-free while documenting it all with outstanding photography.  I’ve made a couple of the recipes, including the Quinoa, Veggie, Egg Bake and they turned out great: really easy, delicious and nutritious.  Even though I probably won’t be able to cook every recipe posted, I love browsing through the spectacular pictures that make my mouth water every time.

“Hard Hats and Aprons Required Beyond This Point”
Back in my freshman year at Northeastern, I was lucky enough to get to meet a talented fellow civil engineer, Halley.  Even though Halley graduated that year, I was still connected through Facebook and noticed that she would share her blog posts.  Today, Halley’s blog has become quite a successful mix of food galleries, restaurant reviews, and recipes as well as travel experiences, some fun cartoons and personal thoughts. I appreciate this blog mostly because it shows the personal life of an engineer. Grab your hard hats and visit the site!

Ryan Likes: Sex Music

Ever in a rush to find a good playlist when you’re about to have a good time? Let Sex Music solve all of that hassle and just hit play.  The playlist will last for hours on end, even when you’re done!… Okay I’ll stop.   In all seriousness, I stumbled upon ‘Sex Music’ when I started using Tumblr a few years ago.  I just found it on a whim and listened to the last song that had been posted.  I don’t remember that song, but it was awful.  Then I scrolled down and there were so many artists and bands that I liked. Oddly enough, even some of my favorite songs from those artists and bands.  So sometimes I’ll throw the playlist on when I want to listen to a mellow, eclectic mix of music.  In the end, it’s more of a website of ‘sexy’ music.  Smooth, relaxing and mostly, alternative or indie. Enjoy!

Emily Likes: Design Sponge
This blog is everything you could possibly want and more with categories for DIY, Home Decor, great design and more!  It seems to be a very popular blog amongst the community and I can see why.  It is easy to navigate, is updated daily and has interesting content.  I also love following Design Sponge on Twitter.  Grace always tweets about new and different things she finds in the world as well as new posts for the site.  Definitely a must visit in my book!
Emily Likes: Haute Fashion
I love this blog, not only because I write for it, but because my fellow authors write some really good stuff!  If you love fashion as much as I do, or just want to see what’s happening in the fashion world head on over to Haute Fashion’s website.  Haute Fashion is Northeastern University’s fashion club.  They hold events on campus along with weekly meetings and have recently been on a roll with their blog.  It is updated on a regular basis and is always a good read.
The Millennial Bunny is a blog all about new technologies and social media. As she puts it “A Millennial’s outlook on digital happenings, social media, tech news, marketing, and just life in general.”  Updating about once every two weeks you can stop by and read something cleaver about an up and coming app, website or the occasional always entertaining personal entry.  Alissa, the author, is a senior Business student at Emory University in Atlanta (what a cool city and a great place to host a blog like this)!  So, if ever you are in need of a social media boost or want to hear about new techy stuff before your friends, The Millennial Bunny is the site for you!

Thanks for the Millennial Bunny shout out! And Emily, forgot to mention that she’s the one who designed the bunny logo!
